Disclaimer: It’s not free.
This post is for those who are working on Amazon Kindle. I self-published a mystery novella on KDP about a month ago and wanted to share the steps I used to get 100+ ratings on my book.
At the time of this writing, the total ratings are 166 with 18 reviews, and the total score is 4.2/5. The common complaint was that it was a good book, but it was short (25k words). That part will be improved in the next book.
How a good fiction story can be written? I will let you know the pre-publication steps in some other post. But assuming that you have a book ready to go, you can copy my steps below:
- Publish the book.
- Enroll the book in KU.
- Add the link to Goodreads.
- Go to the following websites: Bargain Booksy, Fussy Librarian, Books Butterfly, and Awesome Gang (Free) and sign up for their email marketing promos.
- Make sure you pick the same promo date on all the websites.
- Set up BookBub Ad to also run on the same date for 5 days.
- Set up the free promotion for 5 days on KDP starting from the same date.
- There are more promo websites if you search for them and have a budget, and there are some people on Fiverr, too, that you can use to run email marketing promos. I used 2 of them.
- Watch the results on the promo days.
- I got 7000+ downloads combined in the 5 promo days, and the book became number 1 in 5 categories.
- After the promo ended, the book had a BSR of 12k as a paid book, and it stayed under 30k BSR for the next 30 days.
Next steps:
- Run and optimize Amazon and FB Ads on this book. This will be a learning process and will help improve my skills in Digital Marketing – a skill I believe everyone should have nowadays.
- Start writing a second book and give away the current book as a lead magnet to start building the email list. Because the money is in the list.
Feel free to ask me any questions about KDP.
